Care Facility - Don Bosco Jugendwerk Bamberg

On 30 June 2023, the time had finally come: the red ribbon was cut and the Don Bosco Jugendwerk opened its care facility. This new facility offers short-term, round-the-clock care for children in crisis and emergency situations. The opening was made possible by a generous donation from the Chance Jugend foundation. The founder, Heribert Trunk, knows from his own experience what a difficult childhood means and is therefore particularly pleased about the new facility.

The opening ceremony was attended by District Administrator Johann Kalb and Jonas Glüsenkamp, the second mayor of the city of Bamberg, who both gave personal speeches and brought gifts for the future residents. Anita Skobl, the director of the youth centre, hosted the event. Father David Blazków gave the blessing and the Christ Cross.

A moving audio recording of an interview with an affected child emphasised the urgency of such projects and touched all those present deeply. This was followed by an intensive dialogue between the guests.

What does taking into care mean?

In crisis situations, young people need special protection. Taking them into care offers this protection if the physical, mental or emotional health of the children and young people is at risk and they therefore have to be removed from their family environment for a short period of time.

Target group and care:

- Age: Children and young people aged 5 to 15 years

- Situations: Acute crises or exceptional circumstances

- Duration: As short as necessary, maximum 6 months

The purpose of taking children into care is to quickly clarify problem situations and develop perspectives from the crisis situation. Care is provided by specialised educational staff in a residential group with a maximum of 6 clients and is guaranteed around the clock. This allows the young people to get the peace and quiet they need.
