Promotion of therapy places at A-L-F e.V."

As a non-profit therapeutic institution, A-L-F e.V. has been working successfully since 1989 in the areas of counseling, diagnosis, combined learning and psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults with dyslexia and dyscalculia, as well as for children with increased support needs in the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic. We support young people who have particular difficulties with reading, writing or arithmetic and with learning in their vocational training. In addition, we support adult “functional illiterates” who cannot read and write at all or not sufficiently, in individual support or in alpha courses. A-L-F e.V. was founded in cooperation with and under the scientific direction of the Chair for Social Pedagogy at the University of Bamberg and was built up and further developed by parents, graduate pedagogues, graduate psychologists and physicians. We are a team of about 20 employees.

The therapeutic work is carried out by qualified specialists such as graduate pedagogues and graduate psychologists (including psychological psychotherapists and child and adolescent psychotherapists) with a wide variety of psychotherapeutic orientations (e.g. behavioral therapy, talk therapy, systemic therapy, trauma therapy, play therapy) and additional qualifications in the areas of partial performance disorders, adult literacy and memory training. In principle, we pursue a holistic approach in which individual support is the focus. We are currently treating around 250 clients from all over the Franconian region in Nuremberg, Erlangen and Bamberg. Especially in individual learning and psychotherapeutic support for children, young people and adults with dyslexia and dyscalculia, the number of those affected is increasing - also according to statements, for example, by the examination board of the IHK Oberfranken - while at the same time financing these measures is becoming increasingly difficult. So far, the funding has been provided either by those affected themselves or via the youth welfare offices according to SGB VIII § 35a integration assistance. Private financing is often difficult for many parents to cope with. At the same time, financing through the youth welfare offices is becoming increasingly rare, since the above-mentioned paragraph is being interpreted so narrowly by more and more youth welfare offices that almost all applications from parents are rejected (often even in advance). Therefore, donations from foundations or companies have become more important in recent years.

Project Idea

Against this background and with the knowledge from our many years of experience that children and young people with dyslexia or dyscalculia are usually psychologically burdened in a variety of ways sooner or later if they cannot read, write or do arithmetic sufficiently, we have decided to provide financial aid to enable those affected to receive the necessary therapeutic support.

Project implementation

Selection criteria for us are primarily the needs of the children: children who do not receive any support from the youth welfare office, although reports are available that certify an urgent need for support both in the learning and in the psychotherapeutic area; Children who do not receive any further approval although there is still a need for support; Children who “fall through the cracks”, i.e. who cannot claim support from the youth welfare office. Another criterion is the financial situation of the parents: Among them are many single parents, parents with very low income, parents with more than three children - i.e. parents who cannot afford therapy for their child.

Help and Support

With the financial help of the Chance Jugend foundation, these children can be mentally strengthened and stabilized. They can be given the opportunity to adequately exploit their learning potential so that they have good prerequisites for their further academic, professional and personal development.

On behalf of everyone, we would like to thank you very much for the financial support and the excellent cooperation. Without your help none of this would be possible.
